HollywoodNews.com: Mike Nichols was honored at the 38th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute held at Sony Pictures Studios. Not only has he been in some groundbreaking films, but he is also one of the few artists who has received the Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony and the Grammy awards. 2009 AFI Life Achievement winner, Michael Douglas, helped open the show that even featured a performance by Simon and Garfunkel who sang their Grammy winning song “Mrs. Robinson” from Nichols’ 1967 Oscar-winning film “The Graduate.” Top A-list celebrities who showed up to honor Nichols included Cher, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Shirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep among others. 2004 AFI Life Achievement Award winner Meryl Streep presented the award to Nichols and began with a poem she wrote just for the celebration. She finished by saying, “It’s Mike’s grace that makes you feel, when you work with him, like you’ve been invited to an impromptu gathering of the most interesting, inventive people in town, and somehow, miraculously, you’re one of those people.” Nichols graciously accepted the award saying, “If I thanked all who contributed importantly over the years, we would be here till Miley Cyrus’s AFI Award.” The gala will air on June 26th at 9pm ET/PT on TV Land.
